Serving Up Success

Serving Up Success

Aspire2 International is pleased to announce its newest Short Course – “Hospitality Essentials”, which as the name suggests, teaches the core fundamental skills and knowledge needed to succeed at working in a bar, restaurant, or cafe. Firstly, students of this four-part course are taught the major day-to-day tasks of basic hospitality work – from broad functions such as the correct sequence and technique of taking orders, and managing the payment process; right down to minute details such as the correct way to present a menu to the customer, and setting tables correctly. Secondly, students are taught how to communicate and manage customer interactions – ranging from serving customers from other countries and cultures, to dealing with more difficult and demanding customers. Thirdly, students get to apply what they have learned to role play situations with other students and the tutors. The course comes about from a ground-roots movement between tutors and the students themselves.

Many of Aspire2 International’s students are interested in working in good-quality hospitality establishments to support themselves, and to complete their New Zealand experience. Often what was lacking was a lack of confidence and experience. Tutors Vijay and Darren, who have over 50 years of international hospitality experience between them, strategized a short course consisting of the most important aspects of working in hospitality. Through teaching and practising, the students are not only instilled with the correct knowledge, but also confidence and morale, which is especially important in the field of hospitality.

Especially relevant to the students of Aspire2 International, is that the skills are applicable to any hospitality context, anywhere in the world. Which makes it valuable to New Zealanders who have their eyes and hearts set on overseas travel and experiences!

The course is available to the public, and is taken over 4 consecutive Saturdays in Auckland, in order for people to upskill outside of regular office hours.
