JOB DESCRIPTION

About the business: 

Wood Street Pizzeria is well established in the beautiful beach town of Mangawhai Heads with this year marking our 9th year. We are a casual family friendly restaurant with a focus on pizzas but we tailor our menu to ensure our year round locals get good variety and specials. We are a year round business but incredibly busy over the summer months and holiday periods

 

About the role:

We are looking for full-time permanent Sous Chef to join our team. Hours of work are rostered across a 7 day week with 2 consecutive days off each rostered week. As a Sous Chef at Wood Street Limited trading as Wood Street Pizzeria, you will play a critical role in the kitchen, working closely with the Head Chef to ensure the highest standards of food quality and presentation
 

Tasks & responsibilities

 Collaborate with the head chef to create diverse menus aligned with the venue's policy and vision.

  1. Innovate and introduce new dishes to attract and satisfy clients as needed.
  2. Establish and manage the kitchen work schedule, including rostering staff.
  3. Train auxiliary kitchen staff to maximize efficiency and resource use.
  4. Maintain order and discipline in the kitchen during working hours.
  5. Implement and adhere to the Food Control Plan.
  6. Communicate any challenges in food preparation to the relevant stakeholders.
  7. Ensure proper labeling, storage, stock rotation, and container changes as directed by the Head Chef.
  8. Manage stock ordering within the allocated budget.
  9. Ensure completion of all cleaning duties per shift.
  10. Discuss food preparation issues with managers and waiting staff.
  11. Stay informed about hygiene regulations and ensure their enforcement among junior staff.
  12. Keep the preparation and storage areas clean and organized.
  13. Represent the business with honesty, friendliness, and responsibility at all times.
     

Relevant Skills & Training Experience

 

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills are a must, be an excellent team player and a role model/ teacher for junior staff
  • A desire to progress and develop within the kitchen. Demonstrating strong support of the Head chef

This is a full-time position working across a 7 day week, 30 - 40 hours with 2 consecutive days off each week.
