kingi is an Auckland restaurant open day and night, housed on the ground floor of the heritage Masonic House, within The Hotel Britomart. Our focus is on making great food with a lean towards sustainable seafood that feels distinctly ‘of its place’, here in New Zealand.

We believe in vegetables just out of the garden, fruit right off the branch, and kaimoana straight from the sea. In our cooking we strive for delicious flavour and harmony with the environment.

The Role

kingi is growing and we’re looking for a vibrant, talented hospitality professional to work with us as part of our culinary team.

We are looking for a full time (30-40 hours) Senior Chef de Partie to help the kitchen team deliver an incredible food experience to guests of both The Libraries and kingi restaurant. An ability to smoothly run and supervise a section is a key part to this role, as is a minimum three years experience. You'll  also be a great communicator and team player.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure service in the kitchen is consistently fast and efficient.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment, observing council regulations for food handling and storage at all times.
  • Maintain excellent food presentation standards that are in line with hotel expectations.
  • Ensure all food produced is in line with kitchen recipes and standards.
  • Prepare and cook all food orders including non-menu items as appropriate.
  • Liaise with F&B service team members regarding the availability of menu items, additions, and any changes to the menu.
  • Ensure par levels of dry goods are maintained.
  • Monitor and control food wastage.
  • Lead team members by setting a positive example. Instruct, train, and develop junior chefs.

REQUIREMENTS

About You

You are professional, positive and curious about everything that goes on in our wonderful industry. You care deeply about good hospitality and are naturally inclined to go above and beyond for customers. You are also an excellent, patient communicator who rarely gets flustered. It might also be second nature for you to think about things from another person’s perspective.

You understand the power of first impressions and always turn up to work looking polished and fresh. You should hold enough confidence to help every person around you and you strive to make your teammates better than you. You like to ensure that new members of the team do not fall into the mistakes that you have made. You'll bring a minimum of 3 years expereince in a busy kitchen environment. Prior experience in hotels is advantageous.
