JOB DESCRIPTION

The Hotel Britomart - kingi

A Little About kingi

kingi (short for kingfish) is a restaurant that offers fresh, locally sourced food in thoughtful, approachable ways. Located just steps from the hotel lobby on the ground floor of the heritage Masonic Building (which has been refurbished as part of The Hotel Britomart project), kingi introduces guests at the hotel to the city, and welcomes Aucklanders with an easy-going warmth that tells them it’s their place, too. Open for everything from early-morning coffee to drinks, snacks and fuller plates at night, kingi also offers The Hotel Britomart guests selected items as a room service menu throughout the day.

The Role

kingi is seeking a highly motivated hospo star to be our Head Bartender, helping a seasoned restaurant team to deliver a polished beverage and service experience for customers. In this role, you both make and direct the making of delicious drinks across the full sphere of mixology, including modern spirit-free drinks. You will be experienced in working with speed and efficiency, and responsible for developing our beverage program alongside the Restaurant Manager, Head Chef and Chef De Cuisine. Expect to develop your capabilities as both a leader and team motivator while setting the bar for warm, graceful service.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to consistent quality and presentation standards.
  • Ensure all prep for all drinks is conducted, including garnishes, batch cocktails or elements of cocktails, juices and perishables rotation, wine labelling and spirit display and display stock monitoring.
  • Ensure that bar is set up, well stocked and ready for service at all times.
  • Manage orders coming over the bar, counter, and phone.
  • Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies.
  • Ensure you follow procedures for opening and closing of the bar, coffee, and greater bar areas.

About you

You care deeply about good hospitality and are naturally inclined to go above and beyond for customers. You will be experienced in drawing on seasonality to inform cocktail and drink offerings. You bring a refined palette and knack for crafting classic drinks without pompous or fanfare. You work well under pressure and are comfortable leading and encouraging others. You are also comfortable engaging in casual conversation with guests over the bar when appropriate. If you thrive on making others feel welcome and accommodated for, are craft-focused and have great attention to detail, we’d love to hear from you. You will be working with an experienced hospo team who will support your growth and career.
