JOB DESCRIPTION

The Beer Spot offers 40 taps of rotating beerilicious goodness at all our locations. It’s your tappy place and The Beer Spot Panmure needs an Assistant Manager (2IC) and beer loving bartenders to keep up the tappy-ness.

Customers enjoy a tasting paddle or glass on site, and can take the beer home in a 1 litre purged and pressure filled Roadie. We also have ciders, wines, spirits and non-alcoholic options, but don’t tell anyone because the sign says BEER.

Open 7 days a week, we feature a wide range of NZ beer and a different food truck each week to keep your tummy satisfied.

A 2IC’s role is to actively lead their team to perform a variety of hospitality duties and tasks that facilitate a welcoming and safe environment for customers while ensuring smooth operations before, during and after trade hours. This is a permanent full time position with 2IC’s typically working between 30 and 40 hours per week.  In addition to the responsibilities of the Duty Manager role you will also be expected to take on the tasks normally covered by the Site Manager if/when they are unable to. Applicants would ideally be Certified Beer Server Qualified.

REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities at The Beer Spot may include, but are not limited to:

Working in accordance to NZ law

  • Updating the logbook (food offerings and duty manager times) and ensuring you’re the correct name is up on the wall
  • Preparing and serving alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages to patrons in accordance to New Zealand law 
  • Monitoring intoxication levels of patrons, reducing and refusing service to intoxicated individuals 
  • Checking customers’ identification and confirming they meet the legal drinking age before serving
  • Double Checking the food truck on shift has at least three substantial options (or that we have something in the office as back up)
  • Checking that the staff on shift with you understand their role in keeping The Beer Spot patrons safe under the Host Responsibility policy
  • Logging any incidents (and actions taken on behalf of staff) in the managers book then alerting the general manager 

Interacting with customers 

  • Taking customer orders and serving snacks and drinks 
  • Assessing bar customers’ needs and preferences and making recommendations
  • Working “the wall” and Providing exceptional service, where novice beer drinkers can feel supported and encouraged while trying something new
  • Representing the beer spot brand in the best light, including having an approachable attitude and well-groomed appearance
  • Dealing with customer and employee complaints and disputes as they arise and reporting to the general manager if further steps are required

Keeping a Clean and Orderly Venue

  • Overseeing general operations including overall cleanliness of the bar, maintenance of the venue and efficiency of staff during shift
  • Following the opening/closing procedures and cleaning lists 
  • taking direction from the general manager for prioritising tasks
  • Liaising with Site Manager regarding any issues/incidents
  • Encouraging staff to keep busy and to prepare for busier periods
  • Coaching, enabling and motivating staff to work at the best of their abilities and to have a positive attitude
  • Clearing rubbish and glasses off tables as soon as customer leaves and wiping down all surfaces (including the bar top)
  • Operating the dishwasher, washing glasses, polishing wine glasses and rearranging the trays for easy access 
  • Keeping an eye on the rubbish bin levels and taking it out when necessary 
  • Cleaning ashtrays and ensuring no cigarette butts are on the ground or tables
  • Checking toilets throughout the shift (floors should be clear and paper towels, hand soap and toilet paper are topped up)
  • Moving empty kegs outside and ensuring the keg fridge remains organised
  • Keeping the bar well stocked - Stock take every Sunday 
  • Printing menus and ensuring “the wall” is well balanced, easy to read and all tap badges are clear – print new ones where necessary 
  • Accepting deliveries, entering beers onto Trickle
  • Changing kegs (both physically as well as on Trickle/POSboss)
  • Keeping the keg room and staff room as tidy as possible
  • Facilitating open communication and building rapport with food truck employees
  • Completing cash up at the end of each night and keeping the safe/change box orderly 
  • Double-checking the state of the venue prior to the end of the shift is clean and tidy

Learning about beer responsibly and participate in higher learning (where possible)

  • Coming to a shift prepared to learn and share knowledge
  • Assisting Site Manager with staff management & training
  • Participating in tasting sessions and ‘beereducation’ events 
  • Interacting with brewers and sales reps
  • Attending staff meetings 
  • Seeking out and attending hospitality/H&S courses
