Summer is here & so are the rooftop bars!

What is it about rooftop bars? They have a certain euphoric energy, maybe it’s the fresh air, the Vitamin-D soaking in from the beautiful sun (thankyou daylight savings 😘), or maybe it’s the higher altitude, but drinking is just more fun from the above! With the summer silly season upon us it’s time to make the most of our iconic NZ climate and catch-up with friends, colleagues and family with a cocktail in hand at golden hour. 

To make the search easier, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite rooftops. From ocean views to twinkling skyscrapers, these elevated alfresco venues are the places to be this summer!

Auckland: 
Saint Alice, Auckland CBD 
A place to soak up some sunny rays with spectacular views of the Viaduct Harbour, Saint Alice has it all. A unique cross between a bar and eatery, the relaxed setting really pops off once the sun goes down! Book in your spot here.

Citizenpark, Kingsland 
This urban garden bar is buzzing with atmosphere for all the social-seeking citizens of Auckland! Whether it’s a sunny day or a rainy evening, Citizenpark’s outdoor bar is the perfect combination of lush flora and fairy lights that combine to create a vibrant space perfect for meeting up with friends and family! Dr Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co., Viaduct Harbour
Known for being one of the best rooftop bars in Auckland, Dr Rudi’s has reinvigorated Viaduct. Homebrew, 15 kinds of meter-long pizza and an indoor bowling alley? What’s not to love! Christchurch: 
Mr Brightside, Christchurch Central City

Engineers Bar, Christchurch Central City
Engineers bar is the place to visit for an epic rooftop party, with Christchurch's biggest dance floor. Dedicated to the engineering of good times and great food & drinks, get a taste for change at Christchurch’s newest venue and one of only a few rooftop bars! More details here. 

Wellington:
Dirty Little Secret, Te Aro
Wellington’s first rooftop container bar, Dirty Little Secret offers near-panoramic views of Courtenay Place and beyond! With a range of premium and craft beers, and high-end wine and spirits on offer this is a must visit rooftop if you’re in Wellington - more details here!

Concrete Bar, Lambton Quay
A relaxed and friendly city bar with a quaint outdoor space, perfect for after work drinks and a cozy meal in the comfortable interior or on the sunny outdoor mezzanine. With a great selection of food, delicious cocktails and a range of local and international beers you wouldn't necessarily call this terrace a rooftop, but it’s still a great spot for enjoying a beer or two out in the open and the perfect vibe for any occasion, see here for details. 

ABV Rooftop Bar, Te Aro
ABV is a premium cocktail rooftop Bar, found on top of The Grand Wellington steakhouse, right in the heart of Courtenay Place. With both open-air and covered seating, the rooftop is a great spot to enjoy drinks, bites and great views - more details here!
