JOB DESCRIPTION

Disclaimer. This ad was written by the FOH team.

The Front of House team at The Engine Room have taken recruitment into our own hands, to find the best humans possible to join our family.

#Engine Room Life…

Start your shift with a darn good coffee. We love our coffee and enjoy sipping on a good brew while setting up for service.

Spending time with your mates. That’s right, mates. We are  a close-knit and down to earth team, this includes the chefs, kitchen hands, owner/operators…. the whole crew. We want you to be comfortable bringing your best self to work, in return you will feel included and welcome.

Our nights are busy and are always a massive team effort. We turn up and achieve service together – you are part of the bigger picture here, and we all feel a sense of purpose. You will have the support needed and opportunity to give the best service possible to our amazing customers. We truly believe in quality over quantity.

Everything just makes sense. We are super organised with efficient systems in place, which makes it easy to feel enabled, and doing our job becomes effortless. But! We are also open to hearing your ideas, if something can be improved, we’re all ears. Your voice will be heard!!

What is offered to us as FOH family at The Engine Room?

The owners at The Engine Room are super hands on, and are committed to providing professional development opportunities, team performance-based incentives and have a genuine interest in the success and wellbeing of their team, for now and for our futures. It really is a mutual partnership where the staff, business and customers are all benefiting.

We love the work that we do and want to provide you with a place where you can share your passion for hospitality and thrive. We hope you can bring your life to the party. In return, we offer…

Free parking, good coffee, delicious staff meals, staff beverages at the end of service – all pretty stock standard in this industry. However, the list goes on and on….

Work Life Balance. The world is your oyster… during the day that is as we are only open in the evening. Spend your days enjoying the things you love doing. The owners here are also very realistic about work-life balance and supportive of family commitments, education etc. Trust us, you will have support in this area.

Closed Sundays and Mondays. That’s right. A two-day weekend, every weekend!

Closed Public Holidays. A rarity in this industry… but we close Sunday, Monday and every Tuesday after a long weekend to ensure our team gets a well-deserved long weekend too.

Closed over Christmas. In December, we work hard. But we get to play hard for two weeks during the Christmas holidays.

Competitive Pay. Our boss’s value us and are willing to make the investment in us. In other words, there is huge value in your contribution to the team. There are also excellent tips given weekly in addition to our remuneration.

Exceptionally lovely customers. We can’t stress this enough – we have amazingly wonderful customers, and it makes our jobs that much more enjoyable.

Consistently great food. We get to consistently serve food and cocktails that we are proud of, and food that comes from a team of passionate and friendly Chefs.

Social Activities. Previously we’ve done trips to Waiheke, quad biking, paintballing, Yum Cha (if you haven’t had a coconut bun from Grand Harbour, go asap. It will change your life) lunches at Hallertau…. to name a few. FOH staff have also been on research trips to wineries in the Hawkes Bay, Gisborne and Central Otago.

What do we want from you?

We hope you have a love for food and wine. We do, and our customers certainly do. Passion is key – we are happy to teach the right person who has the will to learn. As the late Anthony Bourdain said, “Skills can be taught. Character either you have it or you don’t.”

We want someone who is down to earth, keen on teamwork and being in an all-inclusive culture, open to learning and willing to contribute to an epic work environment. Attitude is everything – come to work raring to go and with a positive attitude, and complete service with a group of mates.

If this sounds like you, come in and have a chat over a coffee.

(please no phone calls)
